Pavlovsk

The lands on which Pavlovsk stands were presented by Catherine the Great to her son, Paul, along with her favorite architect, Charles Cameron.  Work began in 1780 and was continued by Paul's grieving widow, Maria Feodorovna, long after his death.

Occupied by the Nazis during World War II and reduced to rubble, it has been completely rebuilt.
